Gonzo Llorente’s “Congos & El Diablo” premiers in Nowness.

Gonzo directed this mini-documentary right after a TV campaign he worked on with BlackVan Films in Panama.

In the colonial era, rebellious African slaves who refused to surrender helped to preserve the Congo culture in Portobelo, an impoverished region set by the Caribbean coast of Panama.

Martín Donozo of BlackVan Films: I try to tell stories from the camera and the light.

Martín Donozo trained in filmmaking at the CIC (Cinematographic Research Center Buenos Aires) where he graduated in 2006. He filmed several short films, one Un fotógrafo (A photographer) was awarded at several international festivals.
